A seven-year-old boy was on Monday attacked and hacked to death in Lolianga Village, Ifwotu Payam in Torit County Eastern Equatoria state.
The boy, identified as Obongoi Joseph, was attacked by Oke Victor, with a machete and hacked into pieces.
The local authorities said the Oke who is suspected to suffering from mental illness had attacked children along Iyodo River, from where he brutally killed the young boy.
Speaking to The City Review, the chief of Enyief in Ifwotu payam, Torit County, Simon Otim condemned the incident.
Otim added that the investigation is ongoing to establish the root cause of the incident.
“Yesterday we went there but they had not yet buried the boy and we are going to investigate the issue there with the family members to ask where the cause of the problem,” he said.
John Simon, a youth in Ifwotu payam, alleged the suspect is battling alcoholism aside from the mental illness and may have committed the heinous crime after drinking.
“This alcohol making this guy to do such things, and I am telling all the youth to not continue with taking alcohol.”
The area state member of parliament, Angela Ajana, condemned incident and called for the immediate investigation of the incident.
