More than 90 students from Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega County have been taken to several hospitals following an outbreak of an unknown ailment.
Several Kenyan media outlets reported that the incident occurred earlier this week, on Monday, October 2, 2023.
The students were reported to be showing the same symptoms where they are unable to move their limps to the point that they are having difficulties in walking.
By Tuesday evening, Kenyan Tik Tok content creators shared videos of some of the girls bedridden but shaking uncontrollably.
Other sources report that more students are being rushed to various health facilities in the county.
Medical personnel from KEMRI (Kenya Media Institute Research Institute) in Nairobi and Kisumu have taken samples from the students, and results are expected in 24 hours.
Several parents were quoted saying they learned about the girls’ hospitalization through social media viral videos, prompting alarm because the school did not warn them, and some blame the school for not informing them sooner.
