BOR, OCTOBER 18, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s organized forces in the country’s Jonglei state are happy after receiving their salaries on Tuesday with the 400 percent increment. A senior officer said on Wednesday.

The forces include South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS), South Sudan Fire Brigade, South Sudan Prison Services, and the Wildlife Service.

On August 14 this year, President Salva Kiir Mayardit signed into law a bill from parliament in which the civil servants’ salaries and the organized forces were increased by at least 400 percent.

Speaking to Sudan Post on Wednesday, Jonglei State Police Commissioner, Major-General Elia Costa Faustino said the forces in the state are happy and applauded the national government for the increment of their salaries.

General Costa added that the new salary structure will boost the work of organized force in the state saying it is great motivation.

“Yesterday we started the payment for the different units of the organized forces which are here, the payment is going on well and people are really very happy for the increment that had been made in the new salary structure,” he said.

The senior police officer added that with the new salary structure the top leadership will make sure the officers execute their duties.

“With this new salary we the responsible people here will make sure we take necessary actions with them to do their duties in accordance with the law,” Costa stressed.

He urged those who left the work seeking greener pastures to return to work.

“This new salary structure is a big motivation for them because it was the situation that forced them to leave the work and to look for how to support their families,” he said.

However, Private Mabior Aborich, one of the police officers said the 400% increment is welcome but call on the government to increased it again as it is not enough.

“What I can say is that yes at least the change is welcome, but this little increment is not yet enough with the current market prices because this money will not even buy 25kg of beans,” he said.

“We are still calling on the government to make another increment such that a private will received at least 100,000 south Sudanese pounds such that I will match with the current market prices” he added.
