Hernando County student charged with making threats to ‘shoot up’ school: sheriff’s office

SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — A student has been arrested for making online threats to “shoot up” Central High School in Hernando County, the sheriff’s office announced Tuesday.

The FBI contacted the sheriff’s office regarding a tip they received about the post on Monday.

The post allegedly read: “This is how I’m going to shoot up Central High School Lunch B
December 3rd, 2024.”

Detectives located the student, who attends Central High School, through their IP address and traced them back to a home in Spring Hill.

Investigators said the boy admitted to owning the Instagram account where the message was posted and said he made the post as a joke because he thought “it would be funny.”

The student was arrested on a charge of felony written threats to kill or injure and taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. After processing, he was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Ocala.
