TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hurricane Kirk is expected to grow larger as it strengthens in the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center said.

About 1,200 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, Kirk is moving northwest near 14 mph.

Maximum sustained winds are 80 mph.

Kirk is expected to become a major hurricane by Thursday, according to NHC.

Gulf of Mexico

A disturbance in the southwestern Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico could form into a Tropical Depression over the weekend, according to the NHC.

Environmental conditions could support the gradual development of this disturbance as it moves fully into the Gulf.

The chance of development in the next seven days is 40%.

Eastern Tropical Atlantic

A few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, a Tropical Depression is expected to form in the next few days.

Environmental conditions are conducive for further development of this system, according to NHC.

The chance of development in the next 48 hours is 90%.
