TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – An onshore wind continues to pump in tropical moisture across the Tampa Bay area. Rain chances ramp up to 50% this afternoon. The storms drift inland and over to the east coast by the evening.
It’ll still be hot and humid with highs near 90 degrees and heat index values 100-105.
Storms form along the sea breeze in the afternoon tomorrow. More widespread downpours east of I-75 later in the day.
The wind switch sets up Thursday, and the flow will come from the Atlantic. That creates a few afternoon showers that push toward the Gulf of Mexico in the evening. Overall, the rain chance is about the same Wednesday and Thursday, but the timing and location of the storms will be different.
Once we get into the weekend and early next week, forecast confidence is much lower as we monitor a tropical wave entering the Gulf of Mexico. Models keep the system weak, but it hangs around the Gulf of Mexico for several days making it hard to determine where and when we could get the most rainfall from it.
At this time, rain chances are expected to be higher Monday and Tuesday.
