TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Local volunteers have been teaming up with the non-profit Operation BBQ Relief to help feed those in need in Tampa Bay following Hurricane Helene.
On Tuesday, the organization helped feed residents in places like St. Pete, Tampa and Clearwater.
Local food truck Saucy Lady was set up at the Walmart on Bay Pines Blvd. in St. Pete handing out boxes of hot meals.
“People come up and they want to jump in and help. These are people that literally have lost everything in their house and all they want to do is help,” Saucy Lady Owner Gina Szmyt said.
According to Operation BBQ Relief, the organization has been handing out about 20,000 meals a day in the Tampa Bay region.
“The amount of lives you can change,” Operation BBQ Relief Chief Operating Officer Jay Collins said. “You don’t know how that one meal is going to change that person’s day, how that day can change their week, that week, the month, the month, the year.”
