BOR, OCTOBER 19, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Jonglei State police commissioner Major-General Elia Costa has said that police authorities in Bor, the state capital, will soon arrange at least 22 gang members arrested during night patrols on different occasions in court.
Speaking to Sudans Post on Thursday, General Costa said the suspects belonging to a local gang group known as “Crew” were arrested while carrying cold weapons such as machetes, toy guns among other objects to intimidate residents.
He said that others who were arrested earlier have already been arranged in court and those arrested recently are being prepared for arrangement in court.
He said the latest group of gangsters were also court red-handed taking drugs which he blamed for radical behaviors causing havoc in Bor town.
“We the police are working very hard. Last month we arrested many of them and we took them to the court, and they are not in prison anymore,” he said.
“Some days also back we have this night patrol that moves from area to area, and we arrested around 22 and they are to be taken to the court,” he added.
The senior law enforcement officer said that police authorities are facing challenges in enforcing laws because of poor roads inside many neighborhoods of Bor town.
“The challenge facing us here is that it is now a rainy season and the roads here in Bor town are very difficult for the movement of the [police] cars. That is the challenge facing us here, but we are trying our level best to contain the situation so that people can move freely during the night,” he said.
Coster further urged residents in different residential areas in Bor to report with immediate effects such gang groups to police authorities to ease response.
