TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida-based grocery chain, Publix, announced it’s making a major contribution to help relief efforts in areas affected by the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Publix announced Monday the chain is donating $1 million, which will support nonprofit organizations such as the American Red Cross, United Way and the Florida Fund.
“We’re grateful to Publix Super Markets Charities for its donation to help the people and communities affected by Hurricane Helene,” Publix CEO Kevin Murphy said in a statement. “I’m proud of our over 255,000 associates who continue to take care of our customers and communities in times of need.”
The grocery chain is also activating a companywide donation campaign to allow customers and associates to help those affected by the storm.
Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in the Big Bend region of Florida Thursday. The storm’s massive rains and powerful winds brought several feet of storm surge across the Gulf Coast and inundated the southeastern U.S. with rainwater, leaving more than 107 people dead across five states.
