The government of South Sudan is reportedly planning to open up a consulate in Port Sudan, eastern part of Sudan, with an aim of resuming the Embassy operation.
“The State of South Sudan has expressed its desire to open a consulate in the city of Port Sudan, east of the country, in preparation for resuming the work of its embassy in Sudan,” the Sudan News Agency reported in a story published yesterday.
The recent ongoing conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces affected the operations of various ministries, diplomatic missions and international organizations forcing them to move to the coastal city controlled by the army.
On Thursday, the Sudanese Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign of Affairs, Dafallah Haj Ali, had a meeting with the Consul General of South Sudan, Gatkuoth Gai, in Port Sudan, accompanied by representative of oil companies, James Kuol Deng.
Gai pointed out that “the ties between the two countries are becoming deeper and stronger despite the current exceptional circumstances.”
