Chad Chronister, Hillsborough County Sheriff in Florida, withdrew his bid to become head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) next year days after being nominated by President-elect Donald Trump for the role.
Chronister posted to X on Dec. 3, stating that he made the decision after considering the “gravity of this very important responsibility,” and that he has more to do in his current law enforcement role.
“There is more work to be done for the citizens of Hillsborough County and a lot of initiatives I am committed to fulfilling,” he said. “I sincerely appreciate the nomination, outpouring of support by the American people, and look forward to continuing my service as Sheriff of Hillsborough County.”
